After an 18 month journey, Habitat For Humanity Illinois working with IDFPR and elected officials was able to gain exemption from the Mortgage Safe Act. The Safe Act was legislation that was passed to protect homeowners from predatory lending practices. This exemption will allow Habitat and other affordable housing non-profits to reallocate its resources towards affordable housing goals and mission that otherwise would have been spent on complying with the Safe Act.

This is true blessing that will allow Habitat better serve our communities with providing affordable housing.
