A Breakthrough Partnership for Rural Homeownership
A groundbreaking partnership between USDA, IHDA, and Habitat for Humanity has led to the first successful closing using USDA’s 502 loan product paired with IHDA’s down payment assistance—unlocking new opportunities for affordable homeownership in designated rural communities. This innovative collaboration made it possible for Candace, a single mother seeking stability for her daughter, to purchase a brand-new home built by Will County Habitat for Humanity.
Habitat on the Hill Spotlights Rockford Area Habitat’s RAFT Initiative
Congratulations to Rockford Area Habitat for Humanity, whose advocacy work was highlighted at the Habitat on the Hill 2025 Poster Presentations. This annual session offers affiliates and affiliate support organizations an opportunity to share state and local advocacy strategies and successes with the Habitat network.
Rockford Habitat’s poster outlined their efforts to develop a policy solution to the problem of increasing property insurance costs resulting from changing flood patterns.
Habitat for Humanity Midwest Conference 2025
The inaugural Midwest Regional Conference took place April 1–3, 2025, in Rochester, Minnesota, bringing together a powerful network of Habitat for Humanity staff and leaders from across the region. Hosted in partnership by Chicagoland Habitat and Affiliate Support Organizations (ASOs) from Illinois, Iowa, and Minnesota, the conference united 78 affiliates and ASOs from nine states for three days of learning, connection, and inspiration.
Habitat for Humanity of Coles County Receives AHP Grant
We are thrilled to announce that Coles County Habitat for Humanity has been awarded $200,000 from the Affordable Housing Program (AHP) grant by the Federal Home Loan Bank of Chicago. This significant achievement marks a new chapter in their mission to provide affordable housing to families in need within our community.
Illinois affiliates operate 20 Habitat ReStores throughout the state. ReStores are retail stores that sell quality used and surplus building materials, appliances, furniture, and home accessories at a fraction of retail prices. Proceeds fund the construction of additional Habitat homes in the community.
Habitat for Humanity affiliates build and repair houses throughout the State of Illinois. On average, the 36 Habitat for Humanity affiliates in Illinois serve approximately 170 low-income families each year through new construction, rehab of existing homes and home repairs.
